  1. When and where is the STAR-TIDES tech demo?

The Fairfax campus of George Mason University (GMU) between October 1st and 3rd (M-W.

A related tech demo will be held in Pentagon Center court on October 4th and 5th. Participants must have exhibited at GMU and have been cleared by Pentagon security. 

  1. How do I register?

  1. Where are the exhibit areas on campus?

There will be two exhibit areas (Green near Merten Hall, and Blue near the Fenwick Library, as shown in the attached site map). [Azan, in addition to the map, put in a link to Merten Lawn.  Last year the map directed people to a distant part of campus.] There may be a third area if demand warrants.  These areas are adjacent to the student dorms and several restaurants, and also near the library and the student center.  

  1. What are the sizes and prices for the exhibits?

Displays can be Large (30x30)-$595.00, Medium (20x20)-$395.00 and Small (10x10)-$195.00. If you need larger than 30x30, or special arrangements like trailers parked near to exhibit sites, please contact us at star.tides.net@gmail.com  Specific site locations will evolve as reservations come in, but early registrants have preference.  Please let us know if you have special circumstances—need sun, good satellite look angles, etc.

Please keep in mind that the prices increase by $50.00 after the Early Bird special ends at midnight EDT on Aug 20. There is no charge to federal, state, or local government organizations, or GMU components.

  1. What is the schedule for the event?

We’ll set up Monday morning beginning at 0900, and be open 11:30-6:00 Monday, 8:30-6:00 Tues, and 8:30-3:00 on Wed (the times are aligned to maximize exposure to student traffic between classes).  Set up Sunday night (Sep 30th) is an option.  

  1. What If I already registered on Eventbrite?

If you’ve already registered via Eventbrite, no worries.  We will help transfer existing Eventbrite registrations to TouchNet.

  1. Where can I park (trailer)?

The most convenient vehicle parking site is “Rappahannock Parking Deck.” The parking decks are about $15/day. We’re working on places to stash larger vehicles after drop off. 

  1. When do the early bird prices end?

Midnight EDT on August 20. Then the price of each exhibit is $50.00 more.

  1. Are there benefits for referring friends or colleagues?

If you refer another exhibitor to us who actually attends the GMU demo, we'll refund part of your fee at the time of the exhibit--$100 off the large site price, $75 off the medium site, or $50 off the small site.

The GMU demo will be a STAR-TIDES event (led by GMU’s new Community Resilience Lab and members of the global STAR-TIDES knowledge-sharing network). 

The Pentagon TIDES demo will be DoD-sponsored event as it has been in the past.

  1. When and where will the Pentagon demo take place?

The Pentagon demo will take place on October 4-5 in Pentagon Center Court near the stage near corridors 5-6.

  1. Will it cost more to attend the pentagon demo?

There will be no separate cost for the Pentagon demo, but participants need to have exhibited at GMU.

  1. Is there anything special I need to get done to attend the Pentagon demo

Pentagon event participants need to be vetted by pentagon security.  We’ll get a final due date for names and procedure for submitting names for clearance, but at this point we expect that the list of attendees should be finalized about August 31.

  1. What if I have more questions?

Please feel free to let us know via star.tides.net@gmail.com and put ‘GMU’ or ‘Pentagon’ in the subject line. 

  1. What is included with my exhibit site?

Large sites will include 3 tables and six chairs, medium ones 2 tables and 4 chairs, and small ones 1 table and 2 chairs.  The cost covers this, plus your share of 24 hours roving patrol security, breakout room access, etc.  You can bring other equipment like canopies, more chairs and tables, etc.  You also can bring a generator, or work with the exhibitors providing power to get access to their power packs.  The University has generators for rent if needed.  As we design the final layout we’ll have to comply with fire marshal density rules, which basically require 10 feet between tents. There will be a room to lock some gear up at night (not everything), though GMU will not assume liability.  If you’ll be staking anything down please let us know at least two weeks ahead of time for Miss Utility permits.

Large sites also will include 3 tee shirts, medium ones 2, and small ones 1.  If an organization has participated in a prior STAR-TIDES demo, either at National Defense University or at GMU, they will be entitled to 3, 2 and 1 ball caps, depending on the size of the site.

  1. What If I take the metro?

Shuttle transport is available between the Vienna metro and campus.  It runs about every 30 minutes—will provide the fall shuttle schedule as we get closer.
