TIDES Supports Defense Department

The Department of Defense increasingly is involved in missions such as post-war stabilization and reconstruction, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief, building capacity of partner nations, and other complex operations.  STAR-TIDES supports US. national strategy policy, military doctrine and is consistent with recent statements by the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State calling for increased use of "smart power" initiatives, greater interagency cooperation, and the "3D" approach of diplomacy, defense and development.

TIDES analyses begin with scenarios chosen by stakeholders. These include:

(1) Stabilization and Reconstruction in Afghanistan

(2) Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/ DR) in tropical regions

(3) Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) in the US

(4) Building Partnership Capacity(BPC) in Latin America and Africa
