Small Power Systems - Solar Oven Trackers

The solar oven tracker is a simple self-powered azimuth tracker. It is a platform that rotates on a “lazy susan” bearing using a small motor that is powered by PV cells. As the sun moves it shines on the solar cells which make the the motor run and turn the platform. When the cells are again shaded the motor stops.

The platform and base are made of painted plywood. The tracker can be left in the rain occassionally but should not be left in the weather for extended periods of time the same as a solar oven.

The use of trackers for solar ovens permits unattended operation. This permits the oven to be left “on” so that energy can be stored for later use, for prolonged cooking as for some dishes and canning, or even arranged for the cooker to start cooking at a later time. A tracker also allows the use of a thermostat so the oven can be kept at a constant temperature.

The tracker must be turned to the East each day. No battery is needed.
The cost is $115.48 plus shipping. It is available in kit form also without the plywood base and platform for $78.27.
