STAR-TIDES Site Roadmap

I am working on a roadmap for the site.  It will be a basic one page overview of what features we will support and when.  Until I get it done here are some of the top requests:

-Better email integration
-Chat and other real time collaboration
-Manage contacts and those interested in the project
-Make it easier to link/embed images and other media
-Expertise management
-Rich visualizations and mash-ups of local and distributed data

Embedding External Media in your blog posts

Google Maps Integration

I have enabled locative info for blog entries that includes Google Map integration.  The code that powers this is still a bit experimental, so not all features are enabled.  More info soon...

Site Time Zone

The default time zone for star-tides.net is GMT.  I have set it this way to reflect the fact that we have an international audience.  However, as a registered user you can customize this setting under your profile.  Just click on "My account" at top left and edit your settings as required.

Site Landing Page

There has been a bit of an email thread on the site redesign, so I'll just summarize here...

The site now has a landing page (make sure you are logged out and open http://star-tides.net) for anonymous users and a home page for those who are logged in.  The question is - What is the best combo of text and graphics to make the most impact?  The purpose of the landing page is to act as an intro/teaser that is less imposing than our standard home page.  So, we really need to apply the 80/20 rule on this effort (probably closer to 90/10).   That is to say, what is the top stuff we want to present to someone who is:
