ICCM 2012: John Crowley, Connecting Grassroots & Government: Building the Interface at Camp Roberts

John Crowley (National Defense University, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, World Bank) organizes quarterly field experiments at Camp Roberts, a safe space for experimentation for humanitarian and disaster response. These RELIEF experiments [Research and Experimentation for Local and International First-Responders] help connect and craft coordination between the grassroots (the crowd and the volunteer technical community) and government agencies. The Civil Air Patrol Disaster Imagery project, Imagery to the Crowd, and other projects show that we can make strides toward achieving what was thought to be impossible.
