STAR-TIDES global knowledge sharing network leverages worldwide talent through several thousand members ranging from universities in Asia, to NGOs in Europe and Africa, to the Red Cross, elements of the U.S. government, as well as companies and think tanks in the Americas. It is a public-private, whole-of-society, trans-national effort.
STAR-TIDES emphasizes the needs of local coalitions of business, government and civil society, with solutions that are suited to their worlds, not ours, and sustainable through the private sector, not government grants. Not all solutions suit all scenarios – building partner nation capacity to stabilize southern archipelagos after cyclones calls for different answers than supporting mountain earthquake victims in winter.
Our work involves whole-of-government and whole-of-community effort to provide sustainable solutions to populations under stress. This effort involves cooperation with numerous Department of Defense offices, as well as the US government civilian agencies, private sector companies, non-profit organizations and empowered individuals who are members of our amazing and growing network.
